What if my wedding is after dark?
Will I miss out on great photos?

You’ve seen them everywhere:

Scores upon scores of warm, sun-kissed portraits photos from perfect California summer days.

After being flooded with only sunlit images, all from ideal settings and ideal light, you may assume that is the only way to have beautiful, flattering photos is to have them at sunset. The problem is, your dream wedding will be in the middle of winter…entirely after dark.

You still want incredible photos, but you worry that you won’t be able to find a photographer that is experienced in photographing weddings at night - much less making the magic you dream to show in your home.

This can leave many couples feeling nervous, not knowing who to trust or how to get truly masterful, genuine images from their evening wedding.

I understand the feeling, and you’re not alone! That’s why over the last 13 years and hundreds of weddings all over the world, I’ve developed (and have even taught) lighting techniques to ensure that every couple gets the incredible photography they deserve. To do that, I bring unique experience from two different fields: From shooting fine art and photojournalism around the world (where I was forced to make art with difficult light that I couldn’t control) to shooting fashion - where I had to create incredible light and drama from scratch, often in dark studios.

Thanks to that, mastering light for a night wedding is a complete breeze, and we’ll always be able to create incredible work from any wedding day (or night). All in all, night weddings can be absolutely stellar opportunities for amazing photography, and with the right team, even more breathtaking than the standard daytime portrait.

To give some examples, below I’ve included a random selection of images that were all taken in ultra-low light situations, whether they were documented only with the ambient light that was present or where I painted the light into the darkness.

So no, you definitely won’t miss out on great photos :)
